Ford Aspire – a study by Autoportal India

The Ford Aspire is the latest entrant in to the new segment of the compact sedans in the Indian automobile market. The sub-4 metre compact sedans are preferred for even daily use over the hatchbacks because of their cargo carrying capacities and spacious cabins. The Figo Aspire unveiled in 2014 has been launched in August 2015.

Competitive prices

The Ford Figo Aspire comes in 5 petrol and 4 diesel variants in trims of Ambiente, Trend, Titanium and Titanium+. The 1.5 VCT AT petrol variant is having 6 gear automatic transmission. The Aspire is priced Rupees 4.90 to 8.25 lakh which is competitive in the segment.

Sporty body

The sporty body of the Aspire has a front fascia with a chrome accented hexagonal grille, swept back head lamps and two prominent vertical lines on the hood. Other features on the body include a strong belt line from A to C pillars, D shaped tail lamp clusters and a chrome strip running across the width of the boot cover. The Aspire comes in new colours of tuxedo black, deep impact blue, ruby red, smoke grey, sparkling gold, ingot silver and Oxford white.

Safe cabins

The spacious cabin of the Figo Aspire has a lot of safety features even for the base variants like 2 air bags, power steering with tilt adjustment, an engine immobiliser and child lock facilities. The top variants have 6 air bags, ABS, EBD and a rear defogger additionally. The comfort features of the top variants include an automatic AC, leather seats, electric body coloured ORVMs with turn indicators and 2 Din music systems with digital display and Bluetooth connectivity for telephony and audio streaming.

Engines and mileages

The Figo Aspire has good fuel efficiencies. The 1.2L petrol engines give mileages of 18.16 kmpl and the 1.5L petrol engines 17 kmpl. The 1.5L diesel engines have mileages of 25.83 kmpl.

Ride quality

The suspensions of McPherson strut at the front and the semi-independent torsion beams at the rear along with a large ground clearance of 174 mm help in a comfortable ride.

Modern looks, affordable prices and segmental first safety features make the Ford Aspire the safest compact sedan available. The quality of the cabin could have been improved. The petrol engines need better tuning to improve the fuel efficiencies.
